A grand durbar was over the weekend organized by Afrikids, a Non-governmental agency(NGO) in the Kassena Nankana West District  to exhibit the road so far in 20 years concerning advocacy and crusade against sacrifices of children born with deformity.

The infamous customary practice mostly prevalent in certain communities in the Eastern part of the district, including Sirigu, Yua, Mirigu and the rest to a large extent received advocacy programmes in the past  to give momentum to completely end the rituals of such children who are normally perceived as ‘spirit children’.

However a milestone was achieved particularly this year following the commitment made by Afrikids in the elimination of the killing of such children for rituals in the area.

As a result of this the organizers of the programme christened this year’s celebrations as an ‘exit durbar’ to demonstrate the revolution regarding this unjust practice.

The District Chief Executive for the area, Thomas Dalu Addah who spoke to Ghanadistricts.com after the durbar indicated that almost all the men (Concoction men) who were sometime past involved in the rituals of these helpless children have now stopped the act and have thereby changed their motives in this regard.

He then mentioned that these people were now seen as ‘child right savers’ in their respective communities.
