The newly appointed District Chief Executive (DCE) for the Kassena Nankana West District, Mr. George Nonterah has emphasized his commitment to help fight the smuggling of fertilizers in the area.

He noted that the issue of smuggling of government subsidized fertilizers is detrimental to efforts in the promotion of agric, hence he will in consultation with stakeholders yearn to put strategies on-board that could bring a closure to this infamous activity in the agric sector.

Speaking in a maiden interview with Ghanadistricts.com, Mr. George Nonterah revealed that over the years the Kassena Nankana West district has been used as a major hub to transport smuggled fertilizers to neighboring Burkina Faso, whiles the poor local farmers suffer without access to fertilizers and agro chemicals to improve their yields.

He alleged that the boarders were undoubtedly porous arguing that there were high incidences of smuggling of some farm inputs particularly subsidized fertilizers meant for local farmers.

He said this was a worrying concern and it was against this backdrop that he had strategized to quickly meet with the District Security Committee (DISEC) to find possible ways that could nip the situation in the bud.
