The District Chief Executive for Kwabre East,  Adams Iddisa, has called on Ghanaians to be patriotic and united in the nation’s quest for building a very strong and prosperous nation.

“The only assured and realistic way of overcoming the challenges is for us to stay focused and devote our attention on issues that promote national cohesion and togetherness instead of those which divide us” he said.

He said as individuals or collectively we all have unique and innate talents that we can offer to promote the fortunes of this nation. Thus there is no need for us to continue undermining our own progress and efforts in building a better Ghana on political, religious or ethnical lines.

Mr. Adams made the call when he addressed the gathering at the 57th Independence Anniversary celebration at Mamponteng, the district capital. The theme for this years celebration was “Building a Better Ghana through Patriotism and Unity”. He added that the theme was much appropriate as the nation was recuperating from a very polarized political season in the year 2013 as a result of the eight month period of Supreme Court election petition.

He added that as a nation we should not overlook the contributions of our forefathers who through their dedication and hardwork made it possible for us to attain our political independence.

He also acknowledged that in spite of the various achievements the district and the nation have chalked in the past 57 years, there are some pertinent challenges that still need to be addressed.

Enumerating some of the challenges being faced by the district he said, sanitation and poor road network dominates the list. He assured that the Assembly intends to evacuate the heaps of refuse in the district in phases and called on the citizenry to practice good sanitation practices.

On the state of the poor road networks, Mr. Adams revealed that most of the poor roads have been awarded to contracts and others are also progressing steadily. Specific mentions were made on the Aboaso-Kenyasi through Fawoade-Kenyasi roads, Asonomanso-Bonwire road and the Antoa-Kenyasi roads.

As expected, a contingent of 1,200 students from some selected primary, junior, senior high schools and cadet corps from the various schools displayed excellent marching skills to the admiration of all the people gathered at the Roman Catholic school grounds, with Lady Fire woman Salamatu Adamu Moro of the Ghana National Fire Service as the parade commander.

Prizes were awarded to the schools that excelled in the march past.  Mamponteng D/A Primary, Mamponteng R/C JHS and Kofi Agyei Senior High schools emerged victorious in the primary, junior and senior levels respectively.

Present at the parade included the District Coordinating Director, Presiding Member, Heads of Departments, Heads of the Security forces, Nananom, Religious leaders and political parties representatives.
