As part of efforts to mitigate problems usually brought about by the rains, the Ga West Municipal Assembly in the Greater Accra Region is constructing a major underground storm drain on the Amasaman stadium road which links the main Accra-Nsawam road to towns within the area.

According to the contractor, the area gets flooded anytime it rains and the construction of the 700-metres drain would help rectify such issues as well as improving on the sanitation level within the area.

Although the project is currently at its initial level, the contractor promised the Municipal Chief Executive for the Ga West Municipal Assembly, Mr. Sam Atukwei Quaye that due to the project would be completed soon.

The visit by the MCE was part of an inspection tour he made to some selected towns within the municipality last week to ascertain the state of projects which were being executed.

Apart from the drain project, about 2.8-kilometres of the Amasaman Stadium road has also been tarred making cruising on it an enjoyable one but had to be diverted to make way for construction work to begin on the underground storm drain which passes through the road.

Some of the residents who spoke to Ghanadistricts.com expressed gratitude to the Ga West Municipal Assembly and the Government for the projects but called for the speedy completion of the storm drain.
