The educational sector in the Bongo District is beginning to feel the effect of high pupil teacher ratio in the sector as performance of students especially at the basic level keep dwindling.

Instead of the untrained teachers being in the minority to augment the efforts of the trained teachers, the situation in the district is the opposite.

Academic performance according to the District Chief Executive, Alexis Ayamdor is at all time low presenting a very worrying situation for urgent measures to return academic performance to progressive ways.

The DCE also noted that the situation is similar in other surrounding districts if not region wide. He said as long term measure, the assembly has submitted application to government for the establishment of a teacher training college in the district to offer opportunity for more indigenes to be trained to serve in the district. He said when established, it would also be beneficial to districts like Talensi, Nabdam, Kassena Nankana West and Bolgatanga.

While the assembly looks forward for the establishment of the training college, it has earmarked thirty-six thousand Ghana cedis (GHs36, 000.00) to sponsor some qualified persons into teacher training colleges this year.
