As Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies MMDAs continue to explore opportunities to enhance economic activities in their respective jurisdictions, the Kwahu West Municipality has taken advantage of the business minded nature of its people to put up stores to enhance their businesses.
The assembly has commissioned a total of 176 lockable stores located at two distinct areas in the Municipal capital, Nkawkaw. The new Nkawkaw lorry station has 3-storey 156 stores while the old Nkawkaw station has two-storey 20 stores.
The assembly adopted “Build Operate Transfer (BOT) system where interested private developers were given the chance to put up the structures with some sort of support usually technical, provision of land and supervision from the assembly.
The private developers because they invested money are given the chance based on mutual understanding with the assembly to manage the facility over a period of time usually some specified number of years before the property is reversed to the assembly for full control.
The system which is a form of public-private partnership takes away the financial burden away from the assembly but ensures speedy development of very important economic infrastructure in the area.
The private developers behind the success of these projects include Obuoba group of companies which partnered with the assembly to put up 156 stores at the New Nkawkaw station, while, Kwame Yeboah also is behind the construction of 20 stores at the old Nkawkaw station.
The commissioning signifies the official opening of the facilities for business by individuals who acquired the stores.
