Mr. Alex Obeng Somuah, Municipal Chief Executive for Kwahu West is the third incumbent Chief Executive to have been reappointed by the president for consideration in the Kwahu area.
He was re-nominated by the president in accordance with Article 243 of the 1992 Constitution and Section 20 of the Local Government Act, Act 462, 1993 along side 15 MMDCEs from across the country. The other two are Samuel Asamoah-Kwahu East and Ibrahim Issaka - Afram Plains South.
The first four years of his administration from 2009 to 2013 under late President Mills and partly under President Mahama saw the municipality recording some impressive performance in various sectors of the district.
Notable among these are;
- Provision of permanent accommodation for the MCE and the MCD
- Construction of new taxi rank at Nkawkaw
- Installation first traffic light at the municipality
- Construction of over 60 lockable stores for businesses
- Construction of a number of satellite markets
- Extension of electricity to a number of deprived communities, as well as other important infrastructure.
Mr. Somuah also contested the parliamentary seat on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) but could not make it through as he was beaten to it by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary Candidate.
He now looks forward to being confirmed by the assembly members to continue his work.
