The Kwahu West Municipal Assembly in the Eastern Region will have its first traffic lights operational hopefully by the end of this month, Municipal Chief Executive, Alex Somuah Obeng has stated.
Mr. Obeng said work on the project is steadily progressing and at advanced stage of completion, adding that they looked forward to its being in use by the end of August.
The project estimated at GH280, 000 is being funded by the assembly with funds from the District Development Facility (DDF) and the Urban Development Grant both of which are performance based grant available to all assemblies across the country.
Situated along the main Accra-Kumasi road, Nkawkaw has become an important commercial hub resulting in vehicular congestions at some areas. This led to the assembly taking a number of measures including constructing a new lorry station and moving all hawkers along the road to the station.
This measure though effective still needs more work hence the assembly’s resolve to install the traffic lights to bring sanity to movement of vehicles in the area.
