The North Gonja District in collaboration with the Ghana Education Service(GES) is earnestly working towards scaling up the number of teachers in the district.

District Chief Executive for the area, Sorku Kasim Yahuza has indicated that teacher-pupil ratio is terribly bad in basic schools, especially in the deprived areas where teachers are normally relenting to accept postings due to the obvious social challenges in these communities.

Speaking to Ghanadistricts.com in an interview, the DCE bemoaned the problem, as he cited instances where there were single teachers managing a whole block in certain schools.

He said the situation in the educational system did not augur well for the achievement of quality education therefore strategic steps were been taken by the assembly to boost the number of teachers serving under the district.

He said the issue had prompted a stakeholders meeting between the assembly and the Wasipe Union to put on the table pragmatic measures to resolve the problem.

He also claimed the assembly was trying to motivate teachers who will accept postings to deprived areas by supporting them with basic facilities that will ease their social lives in the area.
