The new District Chief Executive for Lawra District Assembly, Paschal Baylon Dery has asserted that in exploring opportunities to spur growth and development in the district, traditional authorities together with the assembly must critically spring back and use agric to promote development of the district.

He said their forefathers believed in the potentials of the Lawra tradional area with regards to agriculture, which necessarily formed their core reasons of celebrating the annual Kob-bina festival that essentially marks good agricultural season and bumper harvest.

He however contended that in recent times the celebration of the annual Kob-bina festival is practically losing its significance and the good sense of its celebrations, as there had been some shortfalls in getting a good harvest for their agric season.

“We need to refocus on restoring our prowess and past glory in agric by concentrating on integrating the application of Science and Technology in the development of agric, he indicated.

Speaking to Ghanadistricts.com, the DCE hinted that clearly there was “meeting of minds between the traditional authorities and the District Assembly to ostensibly use agric to drive the economy of the district”.

He for instance mentioned that the theme for the just ended celebrations of their festival, which was climaxed 12th and 13th of this month apparently, resonates well with the vision of the assembly.

The theme for this year’s celebrations was ‘Poverty alleviation through the application of Science and Technology for agriculture development”.

He said his topmost priority is geared towards mining human capital and expanding the Knowledge base in Science and Technology for the development of agriculture.

This he said was a contemporary measure that underpins development of agriculture to ensure expansion in agric production and increased productivity.
