The Kadjebi District Assembly continues to make progress in its efforts to ensuring good personal and environmental sanitation in the district.
The sister-City relation the assembly has with Kaag en Braassem of the Netherlands which has been the backbone of the success story the assembly chalked over the years is still bearing fruits as the assembly focuses on sensitizing residents on the need to keep as well as how to keep public toilets tidy, encourage households to build their own toilet facilities, reminding them that public toilet facilities are meant especially for people in transit.
General overseer of the sister-city cooperation at the assembly, Komla Anthony Foster said the assembly has just completed a review on the District Environmental and Sanitation Action Plan (DESAP) with delegation from the Netherlands and the Local Government to pave way for the next line of action.
According to him, previous studies show that most public toilet facilities have poor sanitary conditions, while the open type of waste containers expose them to flies which do not solve issues with spread of diseases. This led to recommendation of closed waste bins which are currently being used in most communities at the assembly.
Anthony Foster is confident the review will be followed shortly with real action to deal with other recommendations.
