Over GH¢100,000 has been disbursed as seed money to 200 physically-challenged persons in the Kadjebi District in the Volta Region to enable them to engage in any self-employment ventures.
This was made known at a brief ceremony at Kadjebi, where 34 of them received their capital, ranging from GH¢200 to GH¢1,000, last Tuesday.
The money was taken from the two per cent District Assembly Common Fund reserved for persons with disabilities and its disbursement was supervised by the Department of Social Welfare.
The ceremony also coincided with the inauguration of a five-member executive committee of the Kadjebi branch of the Ghana Federation of the Disabled (GFD).
The GFD is chaired by Madam Esther Apau.
Inaugurating the executives, Ms Vivian Nortey, Volta Regional Public Relations Officer of the GFD, advised that the money should be used judiciously. That, she said, was to ensure that they could generate income and live decently. She expressed the hope that they would reach out to other disabled persons who had not heard of the grants and convince them to register with the GFD.
Madam Apau commended the government for remembering them and gave the assurance that the money would be put to good use.
