The MCE, earlier today secured 45 out of 46 votes cast by Assembly members to confirm his position as the President’s representative of the area.

In his acceptance speech, the new MCE expressed his appreciation to the President for the confidence reposed in him and thus pledged to work hard to ensure the progress of the municipality.

He also seized the opportunity to thank the Chiefs and Elders for their massive support.

He appealed to members of the assembly eschew partisanship politics in assembly deliberation but rather support any agenda that will go a long way to better the lives of the very people they serve.

BACKGROUND

Berima Awuah Sarpong was appointed by President Akufo-Addo to replace Mr Dennis Aboagye who had earlier been relieved off his post.

His (Dennis Aboagye) appointment was revoked in a statement signed and issued by the Minister for Local Government and Rural Development, Hajia Alima Mahama.

Although the statement did specify the reason behind the President’s action, Mr Aboagye claims his dismissal from office as MCE was strategic.

According to him, his time with the Assembly has earned him much experience in grassroots mobilization and support needed by the ruling party to help win convincingly in the upcoming December elections. The former MCE noted this after being sworn-in as a member of the Eastern Region NPP Campaign team.
