Residents of Sowutuom cries for potable water

Water is said to be an indispensable commodity and life would be impossible without it.

The Perennial water shortage of some suburbs in Accra, including Sowutuom, Antie Aku,  Israel,  Race course suburb  just to name a few in the  Ga  Central Municipality in the Greater Accra Region  has been a thorn in the flesh of residents in these areas.

Since water is a basic need and critical household needs such as cooking, washing, sewerage system, it plays an integral part in life since its parts of everyday’s life and its activities.

Some residents of Sowutuom have shared their ordeals to Ghanadistricts.com over frequent acute water supply, especially during the harmattan season.

Most of the residence resort to poly tanks, the yellow gallons popularly known as ‘’Kuffuor gallon”, concrete built tanks to store water. The residents harvest rainwater during the rainy season.

The biggest challenge comes during the dry season which makes those supplying water in lorry tanker charge exorbitant prices, another alternative way of getting water is to access boreholes which of course you cannot guarantee the safety of it.

 Without good portable water one is likely to be exposed to various forms of waterborne diseases such as diarrhea, cholera, typhoid fever which are usually spread through the use of unsafe water.
