Racecourse receives facelift as construction of a culvert begins

The Municipal Chief Executive of Ga Central Municipal Assembly, Mr. Mohammed Bashiru Kamara, has on Monday, 3rd July, 2023, officially cut sod for the commencement of the construction of a culvert which would serve residents of both Racecourse and Tabora.

The brief but significant exercise saw the Hon. MCE operates the excavator which subsequently would be used by the engineers on the project site.

The exercise was witnessed by the Municipal Coordinating Director, John Owusu Donkor, Assembly member for Kwashiebu electoral area, Hon. Asafo Adjei, Chairman of the Racecourse landlords association, unit committee members and heads of department.

In a media interview, Mr. Mohammed Bashiru Kamara, said the assembly is concerned about the welfare of residents especially school children who have had to resort to crossing the stream to get to the other side irrespective of the danger it poses.

He said the culvert will serve a dual purpose where pedestrians and vehicles will use it to get to the adjoining communities.

Hon. Bashiru while touting the current government’s achievement went on to say that the project is an invention from the government to help resolve a pertinent concern. He said the Akufo Addo – Bawumia led government has been proactive when it comes to roads.

He cited projects such as the Sowutuom- Heavenly Church road, Sowutuom- Puma road and Sowutuom- Fanmilk road as having been tarred while Antie Aku- Adu Gyamfi, Antie Aku- Deseret and Antie Aku-Anyaa market roads are seriously under construction.

“I am hopeful that in the next one month, the area will see a massive facelift”, he opined.

The Hon. MCE said he is confident that the contractor will deliver because he is reliable, fit for purpose and has been adequately resourced. He therefore assured residents living in other communities to exercise restraint as many more of such projects will be brought to their doorstep.

The Assembly member for Kwashiebu, Hon. Asafo Adjei, also thanked the assembly for the swift intervention. He said he has been to the MCE’s office for quite a number of times and today he is all smiles because the concerns of his people will soon be resolved.

While being hopeful that the culvert will be completed within the stipulated time scheduled, the Assembly member went on to highlight other challenges such as inadequate streetlights, bad roads and pleaded with the assembly to help in that regard.

The contractor from Kosa Wielding and Construction Limited, who also spoke to the media apologized to the community for any inconvenience they may encounter during the period of construction and assured them that the project will be completed as scheduled.
