The municipality can be described as purely agrarian, as the majority of residents are actively engaged in crop production and related agricultural activities.

At the heart of the local economy is yam production, which stands as the municipality’s dominant crop and the primary source of household income for many families. The prominence of yam farming has positioned Kintampo North as a key food-producing area, supporting both local consumption and market supply beyond the municipality.

In addition to yam, farmers cultivate a wide range of staple crops including maize, cowpea, cassava, rice, plantain, egushie, groundnut, and beans, strengthening food security and sustaining daily livelihoods. This diverse crop base provides resilience for farmers, especially during periods of market or climate fluctuations.

The municipality also holds strong income-growth potential through the cultivation of high-value crops such as cashew, mango, tomatoes, onions, watermelon, garden eggs, and soya beans. These crops present opportunities for increased earnings, agro-processing, and expanded market access if properly supported.

With agriculture employing the bulk of the population, stakeholders believe that strategic investment in modern farming practices, irrigation, storage, and market linkages could significantly boost farmer incomes and accelerate local economic development.

As Kintampo North continues to depend on its fertile lands, agriculture remains not only the backbone of the municipal economy but also a powerful driver of growth, employment, and food production.
