Regional Minister presents desks to Bibiani Anhwiaso Bekwai

The Western North Regional Minister, Mr. Richard Ebbah Obeng has handed over 600 mono and dual desks to the Bibiani Anhwiaso Bekwai Municipality Assembly to benefit schools in the area.

The presentation follows his campaign of One schoolchild One studydesk to address the desk deficit in schools within the region.
Addressing the ceremony held in Sefwi Bekwai, Mr. Richard Ebbah Obeng disclosed that Bibiani Anhwiaso Bekwai municipality had gotten the majority share of the desks due to over 17,000 desk deficit.

He said this was made known to him by the Regional Education Director, Mr Stephen Kwaku Owusu, in a meeting before the launching 1 shcoolchild1 study desk initiative. He promised that the desk deficit in the municipality will be gradually cleared.


Mr. Obeng thanked the Adontenhene of Sefwi Bekwai Traditional Area, Nana Marfo Panyi II, for attending and supporting him during the launch of the ONE SCHOOLCHILD ONE STUDY DESK campaign at Sefwi Wiawso.

He advised the students to take good care of the furniture and study hard to meet the purpose of the 1schoolchild1studydesk campaign.
Mr. Obeng again promised to meet with the regional Police Command to address the issues of the Sefwi Bekwai by-pass as Nananom has put before him.

The MCE, Alfred Amoah, commended the Regional Minister for the gesture and assured the assembly’s readiness to support the ONE CHILD ONE DESK initiative.


He charged the students to take their studies seriously as the education directorate has the pledge to emerge first in (100%) in the BECE.

The MCE made it known that this first 300 mono and 300 dual desks will benefit Queens SHS, the only girls’ school in the Region, Sefwi Bekwai Methodist JHS, Dansokrom, Donkorkrom, Merewa, Tanoso, Dominebo, Nzema Nkwanta, and Adukrom.

Municipal Education Deputy Director, Mr. Patrick Kwan expressed words of gratitude to President Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo-Addo and the Reginal Minister for their support and kindness shown to the Bibiani Anhwiaso Bekwai Municipal Education Directorate and the Ghana Education services as a whole.


He indicated that the directorate would make sure schools who receive the desks will maintain them to make them last longer to serve their intended purpose.

Nana Marfo Panyi II, Chief of Sefwi Chira, who doubles as the Adontenhene of Sefwi Bekwai Traditional Area, lauded the Regional Minister for the initiative as promised.

He asked pupils to take advantage of all government educational initiatives to become useful to themselves and society.
