At the colorful event, graced by the Ahafo Regional Minister, traditional authorities, representatives of the Ghana Chamber of Mines, and Newmont Africa’s leadership, 72 trainees graduated from the three-month training programme while 48 others matriculated to start their training in carpentry and masonry. The training will be carried out in two batches of 24.

The 72 graduates were trained in welding and fabrication by an international organization, Corporate Professional Industrial Training (CPIT), as well as in scaffolding and steel bending by our local contractors, Opoopo Company Limited (based in Ntotroso), and Harmotech Engineering and Construction Limited (based in Kenyasi).

Newmont Africa established the CWTP to train, in batches, a total of 168 local artisans from our host communities in various vocations, including welding and fabrication, scaffolding, steel bending, carpentry, masonry, equipment operation, and crane operations.

This training is meant to equip the youth with the required skills to undertake construction-related jobs on the Ahafo North Project, and also enhance their capacity to meet national and international standards and approved certifications for future work opportunities within the extractive industry and beyond.

The CWTP is one of several initiatives we have introduced to provide alternative employment opportunities for the youth within our local communities.
