Tano North Assembly supports PWDs

Tano North Municipal Assembly in the Ahafo Region has presented items worth thousands of Ghana cedis to some physically challenged persons in the municipality.

The beneficiaries were given items such as deep freezers, ice chests, building materials, assorted soft drinks, earth wares, fufu pounding machines, farm inputs among others.

These requests were made by them to support their goals in their field of chosen employment.

Speaking at a short ceremony, the Municipal Chief Executive, Mr. Ernest Kwarteng said, “My first term in office as the Municipal Chief Executive saw a lot of items being distributed to different PWDs.


“It is on record that this event takes place every year. From December 2018, July 2019, December 2020 and last year December 2021, a total One Hundred and Eighty Five (185) persons with disability benefited from various items at the tune of Two Hundred and Eighty Six Thousand, Seven Hundred and Five Ghana Cedis (GHC 286,705.00) to improve their condition by means of setting up their own businesses.”

“The Tano North Municipal Assembly with funding from the District Assemblies Common Fund has supported a number of students in the municipality whose parents are persons with disabilities with an amount of Sixteen Thousand, Eight Hundred and Fifty-Five Ghana Cedis (GHC16, 855.00).”



The Assembly has also supported Two (2) people to pay their medical bills amounting to Five Thousand, Five Hundred Ghana Cedis (GHC 5,500.00), the MCE revealed.

“Today, we have gathered here once again to distribute these items worth Eighty-Three Thousand, Nine Hundred and Seventy
Ghana Cedis (GHC 83,970.00)”.

“All these interventions are meant to alleviate the plight of persons with disabilities to help keep them off the streets of Ghana and to improve their standard of living which is in line with the government’s policy to move Ghana beyond aid”.
The Member of Parliament for Tano North, Dr. Freda Prempeh, in her address thanked the Assembly for the kind gesture towards improving the lives of PWDs.



“I am very glad to have seen this presentation today”.

She congratulated the beneficiaries and indicated her and the Government's readiness to support them when the need be.

On their part, a member of the Tano North Branch of the Ghana Federation of the Disabled, Miss Beatrice Aboagyewaa, thanked the Government, the MP and Municipal Assembly and encouraged the beneficiaries to make very good use of the items.
