The items which were given to the 55 people were deep freezes, sowing machine, designing machine, fufu machine, overlook machine, photocopier machine among others forms part of the three percent Share of the district assembly common fund allocation.
According to Samuel Kena, District Chief Executive, "the purpose of this initiative by the Nana Akuffo Addo led government is to ensure a drastic depreciation or if possible, eradicate poverty among Ghanaian especially within the people with disabilities to avoid begging from the street".
The DCE recounting how the fund was disbursed some years ago revealed that "previously the two percent PWDs fund was distributed to beneficiaries in the form of cash which never helped them to achieve its purpose of eradicating poverty among our brothers and sisters. This is the reason why upon assumption of His Excellent Nana Akuffo Addo as the president of the Republic directed that the money should not be given to you in cash but rather should invest it in an income earning trade of your choice. That is why we have these items before us today, they are what you requested for".
He called on other PWDs who did not receive anything from the presentation to hold their peace as the assembly is positioned to present another items in December this year.
He assured them of the will power of the New Patriotic Party government to continue serving the good people of Ghana till we all meets our expectation after advising the beneficiaries to make proper utilization of the items given to them as a monitoring team from the Assembly will not cease visiting them from time to time to assist and access their growth in business.
Mr Michael Kwadwo Ampontia, Ghana Federation of Disabilities chairman for Kwahu Afram Plains North District on behalf of his staff and members expressed their immense gratitude to the government and District Chief Executive, for such a gift promising to use the items for its purpose to help uplift the standard of living of its members.
