2024 Mid-Year performance review of Koforidua Polyclinic

The 2024 mid-year performance review of Koforidua Polyclinic was held at the New Juaben South Municipal Assembly’s Conference Hall.

The theme for the review was ‘‘Enhancing Infrastructure of Koforidua Polyclinic to Improve Health Service Delivery; the role of Stakeholders’’.

The review was attended by stakeholders, including Madam Helena Asare, a Regional Representative, Nana Sempei Osei Bonsu II, representative of New Juaben Omanhene (Daasebre Nana Kwaku Boateng III), Mr. Samuel Kofi Frimpong representative from Linda Dor Restaurant, Mr. Kwabena Boateng representative from Tobinco Pharmaceuticals Ltd and other representatives from various organizations.

Miss Glover Esinam of the Public Health Information Unit gave a brief history about the clinic and the services they provide like antenatal etc.

She stated that the Polyclinic is the only clinic under the New Juaben South Municipal Health Directorate.

She went on that they have a Staff strength of 137 and continue to give details of the staff including number of midwives, registered nurses, administrative staff, laboratory technicians.

She further gave the number of outpatients that visit the clinic the type of conditions patients come with.

The clinic has seen an increase in outpatient attendance from 2022 to 2024, with a total of 12,000 patients, including males, females, and children.

The clinic has 22 beds, which is insufficient to admit patients overnight, she added.

Madam Vida Okyere from the Public Health unit gave the facility’s profile and what the unit deals with includes reproduction and child Healthcare, adolescents’ health services, antenatal, advising clients to Promote healthy lifestyles and good nutrition to clients etc.

The women health unit represented by Madam Anita emphasized the importance of safe motherhood, highlighting the need for pregnant women to visit healthcare facilities at least four times during their pregnancy journey.

For the healthcare centers to achieve this the facility should have enough supplies and transport availability so that incase of anything the client can be transported to a bigger or different facility that has the needed things for her health, she added.

She stated that the facility didn't record any maternal mortality which is a plus for them.

Pharmacy Unit represented by Pharm. Eric Osei-Sarpong stated that the unit provides quality and affordable services, including prescription screening, dispensing, and patient adherence counseling.

He then advised clients to report to them if they react to any drug given to them and use prescribed drugs responsibly.

Dr. Kwame Ofori Koramoah a family physician and the medical superintendent of Koforidua polyclinic, added that fundraising which was organized by Daasebre Kwaku Boateng and donations by GRA, Freemason and others towards the Polyclinic has helped the Polyclinic a lot in providing services to clients.

He said that there has been a decrease in deliveries due to the theater not ready and that it's 90% done.

Dr. Koramaoh stated the Challenges and Needs of the Polyclinic including, equipping the theater, beds, a medical officer, an emergency ward, completion of the ENT/EYE and OPD unit, administration space, emergency ward, consulting room, stores, and a hospital vehicle.

He then acknowledged the support of chiefs and elders, the Municipal Chief Executive of New Juaben South Assembly, the regional health director, the staff, donors, media and others for their support and contribution to the Polyclinic.

Nana Sempei Osei Bonsu II, the Chairman of the programme, thanked the Polyclinic for the good work and told them to put everything they are addressing to Daasebre into writing to be presented to him in.

Nana added that the support of stakeholders is crucial in addressing these challenges and improving healthcare delivery in the community.
