At a brief ceremony on Tuesday 1st October, 2019 at the Assembly premises, the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Kwaku Kyei Baffour mentioned that the items were procured from the Assembly’s share of the District Assembly Common Fund.
He said people with disabilities have a 3% share of all quarterly releases of the District Assembly Common Fund which is meant for their welfare. He mentioned that, the fund was previously disbursed in cash to the PWDs but the government took a decision in 2017 that, instead of giving out cash to the beneficiaries it was prudent to procure items for them to venture into commercially viable activities.
The Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Kwaku Kyei Baffour warned the beneficiaries not to sell the items as he will personally go round from time to time to see how the beneficiaries are using the items.
The Municipal Chief Executive with the assistance of the Municipal Social Welfare Director, Mr. Patrick Nawah presented brand new deep freezers, sewing machines, gas cylinders, wheel barrows, carpentry tools as well as some food items to the beneficiaries based on their request.
Mr. Isaac Ofori Dwamena vice president of the PWDs, Bekwai Municipal, thanked the Municipal Chief Executive and Social Welfare Director for the support and appealed to government to release their funds on time.
