AFRAM PLAINS N: 817 LEAP beneficiaries to receive cash

The government has disbursed a total of Three Hundred and Four Thousand, three hundred Ghana Cedis (GHs 304,300.00) to eight hundred and seventeen (817) beneficiaries of the Livelihood Empowerment against Poverty (LEAP) programme in the Kwahu Afram Plains District.

The Livelihood Empowerment against Poverty (LEAP) Programme is a flagship social Protection programme of Ghana’s Social Protection Strategy with the primary objective of reducing poverty in the country in line with the Millennium Development Goal (MDG).

The programme is also aims at supporting and offering protection to persons living in situations of extreme poverty, vulnerability and exclusion.

Addressing Assembly Members at the Assembly’s First Ordinary Meeting held at Donkorkrom, District Chief Executive of the area, Samuel Kena stated that the Social Development office had begun the disbursement process to deserving beneficiaries.

He indicated that thirty-four (34) communities in this district have so far been earmarked to benefit from this all-important programme, adding that government will soon expand the programme to cover more vulnerable people and communities in the district.

He assured the government's firm position to ensure improvement in the standards of living in the area.
