Akim Kotoku Educational Trust Fund launched

An educational endowment fund to support needy but brilliant students in Akim Oda and its surrounding communities in the Birim Central Municipality has been launched.

The foundation which is christened “Kotokuman Educational Trust Fund” is basically to provide funding by way of scholarships and other forms of financial assistance to needy but brilliant students at the tertiary level of education.

Speaking at the colourful event, architect of the foundation, Mr. Alexander Akwasi Acquah underscored the importance of the initiative, adding that the foundation would provide support for needy but brilliant students to realize their dream and also to reduce school dropout rate.

He thus encouraged trustees of the fund to collaborate with other stakeholders to identify students who qualify in order to benefit from the facility.

Mr Akwasi Acquah, who is the owner and bank roller of Maks Publications and Media Services and The Community Hospitals in Ashongman, Oda, Ashaiman, Kaneshie and Kukurantumi, is also set to open a new branch at Somanya in the Eastern Region.

Touching on other developmental projects, Mr Akwasi Acquah recounted on various projects and initiatives aimed at improving livelihood in the area, adding that the group was now ready to venture into the educational sector to help support students who are from poor home but strong academically.

He said, “This all-important foundation will help support needy but brilliant students to continue their tertiary education after completing SHS since most of them try to cater for their education themselves by finding work to do, but end up neglecting their education”.


He noted that the situation whereby students from Akim Oda and surrounding environs fail to enroll into tertiary institutions due financial barriers will soon be a thing of the past since the fund was initiated to assist such students.

On his part, Ghana’s Senior Minister, Yaw Osafo Marfo ceased the opportunity to advise the people of Oda to contribute their quota to guarantee its sustainability.

He further advised students in the area to take their studies serious in order to benefit from the initiative.

Also in attendance was the Member of Parliament (MP) for Akim Oda, Mr William Agyapong Quaittoo, Municipal Chief Executive of Birim Central Kwabena Bempong and other dignitaries.
