He explained that the shift away from manual to digital ways of doing things is to among other things make information more easily accessible and shareable through the use of technologies, adding that digitalization also offers an added benefit of doing things faster, better and relatively cheaper which is paramount to good nation building.

Dr Bawumia said this when he commissioned the Christina Akua Brago Diawuo Library and Technology Hub at Akim Oda in the Eastern region on Thursday.

Speaking at the colorful commissioning ceremony, the vice President said it was imperative for every government to invest more in education with modern technologies since it is the bedrock to building a healthy nation.

He added that, it is against this backdrop that the Akufo-Addo led NPP government is doing much in that sector to ensure that every child of going age acquires formal education and becomes relevant to the society.

He cited initiatives such as Free Senior High School (SHS), Free Technical Vocational Education (TVET) and nationwide Library facilities as part of efforts to promote quality education across the country.

He explained that about 400,000 students who were previously denied secondary education now have access to formal education since the introduction of the free SHS policy by his government.

He lauded efforts by the Ghana Library Authority, MTN, Ghana Electronic Fund for Communications (GIFEC) and Huawei technologies for partnering with the central government to promote both primary and secondary education, especially in remote communities.

On her part, the Minister for Communications and Member of Parliament for Ablekuma West Constituency, Mrs. Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, who facilitated the construction of the project in honor of her mother, Christina Akua Brago also noted that, the facility was aimed at complementing the government’s educational efforts by improving the reading abilities and skills of the Ghanaian child.

She expressed appreciation to the chiefs of the area and was hopeful that the new library facility will help children in the area acquire the requisite knowledge to further their studies to higher levels.

“We never ever stop learning and I must thank the traditional authorities through whose benevolence the Anglican School got this land which they gratefully donated to us to put up this facility”, the Minister noted.

Mr Hayford Siaw, CEO of the Ghana Library Authority (GhLA) also revealed that the Akufo Addo-Bawumia government has constructed and commissioned 55 new library facilities since assuming power in 2017.

Like other facilities built under his watch, the CEO also disclosed that the Christina Akua Diawuo library facility has been stocked with 2,500 books and other technological devices with more expected in the coming days.

Member of Parliament for Akim Oda, Alexander Akwasi Acquah highlighted the numerous infrastructure developments that are either completed or ongoing under his leadership.

He therefore rallied support from the people to enable him continue his good works in the area.
