TWIFO A-M: District Chief Executive meets with GPRTU Branch Managers

The District Chief Executive for Twifo Atti-Morkwa, Robert Agyemang-Nyantakyi on Sunday, met with the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) branch managers within the district capital (Twifo Praso) over the measures put in place to control the spread of corona virus.

Mr. Robert Agyemang-Nyantakyi in commencing his speech thanked the union executives for their support during this global pandemic era. He went on to inform the union executives about a disinfection exercise which would happen on Tuesday 7th April, 2020, in the district.

He noted that, the major markets and lorry stations within the district were majorly the focus of the exercise, hence, there will be no form of trading within the said markets until the exercise was over.

He also informed the union executives to that effect, halt the movement of all vehicles until the exercise was over. A decision that was warmly welcomed by both the executives and members of the GPRTU present.

He also informed the gathering of a directive from ministry of roads and transport to maintain social distancing in vehicles and as such all bodies involved in enforcing the directive have been activated. He therefore advised Union members present to ensure that their drivers adhere to the directive so as to not find themselves wanting.

The Union expressed its satisfaction on the issues and assured the District Chief Executive to follow the directives. The Union however, raised concerns about the disorderliness among the motorcycle drivers (Okada) in the district who tend to congest riders on the motorcycle.

The District Police Commander, DSP Charles Addai Boateng expressed the readiness of the police force cooperate with the necessary bodies to make sure both the disinfection exercise and social distancing in motor vehicles are followed.
