The visit was to afford him the opportunity to assess the quality of food being provided by the caterers and also interact with the school children, since they are the beneficiaries of the programme.
At the Fetentaa R/C Basic and Junior High School (JHS), Mr. Osei observed that the caterer has provided for the pupils and went ahead to taste the food. Through interaction, the pupils who were excited to have the DCE eat with them admitted that, the caterer have been providing hot and delicious meals for them.
The DCE encouraged the caterers to treat the children as they would treat their own children at home. “You are all mothers and I expect you to give these children, food that you will give to your children at home.” He cautioned them against fraud and any other vices that would bring the programme into disrepute.
Some members of the community who heard of the DCE’s presence in the school thronged there and appealed for an expansion of the Programme to cover Junior High School students, since some JHSs were needy and required such assistance.
They argue that the JHS is the only stream with no feeding plan in the educational ladder.
A teacher commended the government for sustaining the programme and said it has resulted in increased enrolment in schools.
