The candidates from 24 public and 11 private schools, made up of 411 boys and 418 girls included three pregnant girls and a lactating mother sat for the examination at six centers across the district.

A visit to a centre at the Jinijini Senior High School revealed that, four pupils were absent.

Mr. Isaac Osei, District Chief Executive, together with officials of the Ghana Education Service visited the centres in the area to encourage candidates to give off their best.

Mr. Osei advised them not to indulge in examination malpractices but rather abide by all the rules covering the BECE.

He encouraged the students to be confident instead of entertaining fear and relying on ‘apor’ to write the exams. “You are the future leaders of this country and your journey to greatness and a successful life begins now so make the most of it.”

He said. According to some of the candidates after sitting for the English language paper told the Information Services Department (ISD) that the examination was “okay” and had really encouraged them that they would come out with flying colours.
A pupil from Peace International at Jinjini, Gideon Gyamfi expressed the hope that the rest of the Papers would be as it has started.
