Berekum West DCE visits schools to mark "My First Day At School"
Mr. Dominic Oppong District Chief Executive (DCE) for Berekum West on Monday visited some schools in the district to mark this years “My first Day at School” programme, with a call on the school children to learn hard to become responsible citizens.

Some of the schools visited include; Abansere D/A basic, Adom D/A basic, Jinijini Methodist, St. Lucy’s D/A basic, Presby Basic A and B, Abi D/A Basic and Domfete R/C Basic schools.
Accompanied by the District Director of Education, Mr. David Owusu-Ansah, the DCE distributed exercise books, pencils, erasers, drinks and biscuits in welcoming the first time pupils to Kindergarten and primary One.
Mr Oppong advised the pupils to take their lessons seriously, and urged them to cultivate the habit of reading, to enhance their studies. He noted that the government had provided the needed environment for sound teaching and learning, and called on all stakeholders to complement the efforts of government, to ensure quality education for school children.
He reiterated the government's commitment to improve on the quality education and urged the teachers to create a conducive environment for the children to whip their interest in school. “It behoved on all and sundry, to put in the maximum effort to help our children attain quality education.” He said.
The District Director of Education, Mr. David Owusu-Ansah counseled the pupils to come to school on time and avoid truancy. He also appealed to the teachers to work as a team to raise the standard of education in the District.
The ‘My first day at school’ programme was instituted by the erstwhile President J. A Kuffour’s administration to improve enrolment and maintaining of pupils in school. It is aimed at welcoming pupils who are starting kindergarten for the first time and to encourage them to attend school regularly.
