ASUTIFI N: Sub-District Rapid Response Team undergoes COVID-19 workshop

The Asutifi North District Assembly and the Asutifi North District Health Directorate organised a two (2) day workshop on COVID-19 for healthcare workers in the district.

The workshop which took place at the District Assembly hall attracted personnel from both the public and private hospitals.

The District Director of Health, Foster Nyarko, giving an overview of COVID-19 noted that the spread of COVID-19 is through droplets that is coughing, sneezing, close personal unprotected contacts with an infected person (touching, shaking hands) and contact with contaminated fomites like door handles and surfaces.



“Currently there is no documented therapy and vaccine and so I entreat everyone to practice social distancing and routine handwashing with soap under running water especially at the Health Centre and CHIPS Compounds in the district”.

Mr. Benard Adu Baffoe, Nursing Officer demonstrated on social hand washing and putting-on and taking-off of Personal Protective Equipment.



Moreover, Madam Juliana Mensah also from the Health Directorate presented on hygiene and safety as healthcare workers at their workplaces especially CHIPS Compounds since they do not have cleaners in tidying up the compounds.

She also cautioned healthcare workers who use mobile phones whiles working or cleaning to desist from that because it is a bad habit, which could lead to nosocomial infections. She explained further that, “mostly we forget we have put on gloves which have been contaminated already and use that same hands in the gloves to pick up calls from our phones”.



Furthermore, the Healthcare professionals were taking through the process of Sample collection, packaging and transportation of COVID-19 cases by Dr. Okine from the Asutifi North District hospital.

The workshop also hammered on the psychological support, risk management, and social mobilization.
