Offinso North inaugurates Public Health Emergency Committee

The Offinso North District Assembly has inaugurated a Public Health Emergency Committee to implement President Nana Addo’s directive to the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development to collaborate with the Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies to institute measures to enhance conditions of hygiene in markets across the country.

The committee is made up of members of the District security committee, Health Directorate, Environmental Health Officer, Information Services Department, National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) Director and Director of Education.

“We have further established 2 sub-committees namely: Rapid response team and the public health team to help curb the menace.

The committee has also procured Veronica buckets and soaps to be fixed at the various markets and public places.

The DCE stated that the people of Offinso North will receive constant updates from the education and sensitization sub-committee which is charged to make use of the numerous markets information centres at our disposal.

He said Ghana; having recorded 11 confirmed cases of the COVID 19 virus is making every necessary effort to contain the virus which has become a global pandemic with worst affected areas being China, Europe, and America.

According to Mr. Asare, the government has closed down schools at all levels in the country and ban public gathering with large crowds at churches, mosques, funerals among others, and also issued some travel Advisories including a ban on visitors from countries with high numbers of the virus, all in the bid to curtail the spread of the virus in the country.

He, therefore, called for the cooperation of all citizens as health experts warn that the next two weeks will be critical in the fight to prevent and contain the spread of COVID-19.

The District Director for Health Mr. Richard Avagu said the Offinso North District Directorate, Ghana Health Service in collaboration with Authorities of other recognized health facilities has commenced the training of Health Personnel on the disease.

He mentioned Akumadan, Nkenkaasu and Zion health facilities as designated health facilities to temporarily handle possible suspected reported cases of Covid-19 that may require isolation.

He announced that a special team comprising of Health Professionals and the Information Services Department has also been constituted to embark on an effective and immediate public education campaign.

In a related development, the committee visited Akumadan Senior High and Nkenkaasu senior schools to inspect some of the veronica buckets designed at the schools to help the students and teachers to curb the spread of the disease in the area.
