Queen Mothers urged to lead war against teenage pregnancy

Queen Mothers in the Tano North Municipality have been schooled on causes and effects of teenage pregnancy.

The objective of the programme was to encourage the queen mothers to undertake steps of educating girls between the ages of 15 and 17 years on causes and effects of teenage pregnancy.

A sensitization programme organized for the Queen Mother’s by Member of Parliament for Tano North Constituency and Minister of State Freda Prempeh, was further aimed at reducing the surging nature of the teenage pregnancy in the Tano North Municipality.

Speaking at the event, the MP indicated that, teenage pregnancy is in alarming rate at Duayaw Nkwanta, Yamfo, Terchire and Bomaa and called on Queen Mothers, opinion leaders and other key stakeholders to collaborate to find innovative way of reducing teenage pregnancy in Tano North Municipality.


She mentioned poverty, broken homes, lack of good parental care among others as causes of teenage pregnancy and informed the adolescent health care workers to increase advocacy on causes and effects of teenage pregnancy to enable the younger generation refrain from the sexual activities which will jeopardize their lives.

She also said teenage pregnancy does not make youth to achieve the future goals, and indicated that, the sensitisation workshop was funded by UNFP.

The Queen Mothers thanked the Member of Parliament for Tano North Constituency for organising such an important programme.

They pledged to embark on puberty rites programme in the municipality to reduce the high rate of teenage pregnancy.
