N JUABEN S: Farmers attend research extension workshop
The New Juaben South Municipal Assembly in collaboration with the New Juaben North Municipal Assembly have organized a Research Extension Linkage Committee (RELC) workshop for 70 farmers with the aim of dialoguing and developing an action plan for 2019.

The output of RELC planning session would be used to develop agricultural activities and budgeting for next year.
In her address, the New Juaben South Municipal Chief Executive, Madam Comfort Asante, who oversees the activities of North Municipality, said the meeting will go a long way to determine the success of agricultural progress for the next year.
She hinted that the current government’s agenda for development depend on agriculture that is why it has launched a lot of agricultural programmes to improve livelihood and create employment for the unemployed.
Madam Comfort Asante lamented that, it is unfortunate for government to reduce the cost of farm inputs by fifty percent (50%) to boost their production, farmers still feel reluctant to purchase those inputs.
According to her, the current government has operationalize the Modernising Agric Ghana (MAG) funding which is in collaborative programme between Ghana and Canadian partners, as a result all Metropolitan, Municipal and Districts Assemblies (MMDAS) have improve resources into the agriculture sector.
She emphasized that government has begun the process of procuring vehicles for Agric Directors and three thousand (3000) motorbikes as well as the extension logistics to augment the activities of the Agric Sector.
“I must admit that the New Juaben Municipalities are loosing all of it prime lands for agriculture to estate development. This notwithstanding, we must strife and make impact in the areas of agriculture production and productivity within the two Municipalities” she noted.
Madam Comfort Asante urged the participants to ensure in making their contributions known to the agric directorates to improve agriculture in the country.
For his part, the New Juaben South Municipal Agric Director, Mr. Kofi Amoako Tweneboah emphasized that the RELC planning session is a platform for farmers and major stakeholders in agriculture to deliberate and try every possible solutions to solve farmers’ problems on the field. He said this arrangement will help the agric sector to have fair idea of next years’ action plan.
Mr Tweneboah advised farmers to see farming as their prior profession which should do with total commitment. He said they should not compromise on an opportunity that comes their way and find a lasting solution to make agriculture attractive to the generation to come.
