Tano South Assembly endorses President`s nominee as MCE

Collins Offinam Takyi, the Presidents nominee as the Municipal Chief Executive for the Tano South Municipal of the Ahafo Region for the second term in office received a massive majority vote in an election held at St. Joseph`s College of Education Assembly Hall.

The election was witnessed by the Regional Minister, George Boakye, Hon. Benjamin Yeboah Sekyere MP Tano South, Mr. Anthony Owusu - Amoako Municipal Coordinating Director, Aide to the Vice President Dr. Gideon Boako, Hon. Ernest Kwarteng, Hon. Collins Offinam Takyi, Nananom, and some party executives.

In a short speech before the conduct of the election, the Presiding Member of the Assembly Mr Asare Antwi called for cooperation of all present to contribute their quota towards the successful conduct of the election.

Hon. Asare said, the nominee has performed creditably in more ways than one and it is only right that he is given the nod to enable him continue the good work he commenced.


The election which was conducted by the Municipal Electoral Commission headed by Mrs. Alberta Osei Bonsu saw the electoral officer taking the assembly members through the electoral laws and saw the end of the voting with Hon. Collies Offinam Takyi obtaining 53 Yes and 4 No out of the 57 vote cast; thus representing 93%.

In an acceptance speech, Mr Takyi said it is with humility and immense gratitude that he accepts their confirmation as the Municipal Chief Executive for Tano South Municipal and thanked the assembly members and all the people who have travelled some distance from their various places to attend programme and all honorable assembly members present for their bold decision by giving him the nod to serve his second term in office.

Mr Takyi said, he did not see the victory as a personal one, but rather a victory for progress and development. He said this confirmation attest to the fact that His Excellence the President knew exactly whom the people wanted.


He said it is important to state that the success chalked during his first term in office was as a result of hard work, commitment selflessness, dedication and determination of all stakeholders but this is not in a way to suggest that there were no challenges, but they manage them in such a way that they could not affect their collective interest of working to improve the living conditions of our people.

He assured the assembly members that most of the issues that were at the center stage of disagreement have been identified and that he was going to do everything within his power to address them since in every human institution these differences are inevitable but, but then is a healthy one.

Mr Takyi again expressed his gratitude to Nananom, all heads of department and institutions whose professional advice and support has brought them to this level and promise the people that the assembly would continue to deliver on the areas of infrastructure development, poverty reduction in various part of the Municipality.
