SAVELUGU: Departmental heads hold meeting

The Savelugu Municipal Planning and Coordinating Unit, MPCU like all other MMDAs meet periodically and at regular interval during which critical decentralized departments are given the opportunity to do presentations on sectoral achievements and outlook for a given fiscal year.

It is also on this platform that critical development issues are discussed for onward discussion and consideration by the general assembly.

Critical decentralized departments like health, Agric, works, social welfare and community development among others took turns to present on their respective sectors.

The head of works department, Alhaji Kamil Ziblim presented on the status of overall development projects in terms of contract sums, project duration and stage of completion among other details.

Opening the session the Municipal Coordinating Director, Mr. Ivan Z Gam underscored the important role planning plays in meeting our development aspirations as public institutions. Today's program he noted, therefore, offers that fine opportunity for key stakeholders to provoke meaningful discussion and stimulate contributions for positive outcomes. Accordingly, he admonished participants to give out their very best to ensure participatory and result-oriented proceedings.



Malaria remains the topmost in the disease burden and most reported OPD case in the SAVELUGU municipality. Even more revealing is the fact that the municipality is infamously touted the District with the highest recorded anaemia cases in pregnant women across the Northern Region.

Also, the growing phenomenon of unacceptable figures of persons living with HIV and AIDS particularly reported cases involving pregnant women in the overall disease burden in the municipality continue to seek answers in our effort at improving public health. This came to light when the Municipal Health Director, Madam Denisis L. Agong took her turn to present on the health situation of the municipality for the 2019 fiscal year.

With the right farmers and right attitude, the country could leverage the sound Agric and related policy initiatives to guarantee our quest for sustainable food security and food sufficiency. These were some of the assurances given in a presentation made on behalf of the municipal Agric Director which presentation was delivered by Mr. Baako M. Abdulai.

The last to present was the Municipal Officer and head of physical planning unit, Mr. Pamphilio Nielakuu. He hinted plans to organize about 4 spacial planning committee meetings to consider critical issues of indiscriminate erection of billboards, structures etc. He lamented a phenomenal budgetary constraints and overwhelming majority of the people being ignorant about permit acquisition and so on.

Mr Pamphilio disclosed the ongoing street naming and property and business registration exercises his outfit is implementing. He stressed the dire need for public sensitisation campaign works as a means of addressing most of the challenges to do with regularizing our special planning as well as property and business registration drive.

Subsequently and in fact the very last to present was the municipal planning Officer Mr. Ibrahim A. Gombilla

The MCE, Hon. Hajia Ayisheitu Seidu who later joined the program was grateful to management for a well thought through program and urged members to leverage their rich experience to benefit citizenry.

Hon. Hajia Ayisheitu in her concluding statement to end proceedings implored the key actors to continue to hold such fora at regular intervals just so the management is able to carry everybody along.
