The Paramount Chief of Kukuom Traditional Area, Osahene Kwaku Aterkyi II has commended the Minister of Chieftaincy and Traditional Affairs, Dr Henry Seidu Daannaa for bringing on board new changes and developments to the chieftaincy Ministry.

He said changes taking place in the age-old, outmoded cultural and traditional practices found to be inimical to present-day civilization, and several others which were currently being debated for change were said to have been brought to the fore from the Minister’s research findings.

The Paramount Chief made these observations when the Minister paid a courtesy call on him at Kukuom in the Asunafo South District of the Brong Ahafo Region as part of his weeklong working visit to the Region.

On chieftaincy disputes, Osahene Kwaku Aterkyi II noted that Kukuom Traditional Area comprising twelve Divisional Councils could not be associated with chieftaincy disputes which were found to be very volatile in some parts of the Region.

He therefore appealed to the Minister to resource the Traditional Council to serve as a model centre for Traditional Administration.

In an address, Dr. Daannaa said the vision of the NDC government as far as chieftaincy issues were concerned was to bring chieftaincy administration closer to Traditional authorities so as to address some challenges hampering the chieftaincy institutions.

He announced his effort to organized regional seminars for the chieftaincy institution in order to come under a common umbrella to share ideas on policies that would facilitate accelerated national development.

Dr Daannaa, however, noted that government allocation alone would not be enough to resource the Traditional Councils and asked the Councils to find alternative means of generating funds locally.
