Mr. Samuel Mawuko Eworyi, South Tongu District Chief Executive, has cut a sod for work to start on a three-unit classroom block, an office, a storeroom, a common room and a toilet facility for two communities.

Performing the ceremony at separate functions at Lave and Detsawome, he reiterated the government’s determination to provide adequate infrastructure for schools at all levels.

Mr Eworyi said the government was determined to improve upon teaching and learning especially in rural communities and would not hesitate to provide the congenial environment and other materials such as exercise books, test books and school uniforms.

He reminded the people in the communities that the better Ghana Agenda was on course and that the government would not relent on its efforts to fulfill its promises.

The projects which would take six months to complete would be funded from the GETFund.

Mr Eworyi appealed to members of the communities to cooperate with the contractors to enable them to execute the project on schedule.

The project consultant, Mr. Maxwell Anyadi, urged leaders of the communities to ensure that the school land was properly demarcated and documented to avoid future litigation.

He also appealed to the contractors to employ unskilled labour from the communities.

The Headteacher of Lave Basic School, Mr. John Edufe, expressed gratitude to the government and the District Assembly for coming to the aid of the school.

He said pupils attend classes in an improvised structure which could collapse in a storm as a result classes ended anytime rain clouds gathered.
