AGRICULTURE:Do not sacrifice agric for oil- Togbe Patamia Gekle II

Chairman of this year’s 29th celebration of the National Farmers’ Day, Togbe Patamia Gekle II, and Paramount Chief of Mepe has made a special appeal to government to put premium on agriculture as a way of ensuring food security of the citizens.

Chairman of this year’s 29th celebration of the National Farmers’ Day, Togbe Patamia Gekle II, and Paramount Chief of Mepe has made a special appeal to government to put premium on agriculture as a way of ensuring food security of the citizens.

He said under no circumstance should government allow the oil find to take over the focus on agriculture, adding that at worst, the two sectors should move hand in hand.

 According to him, while the country looks forward to making a lot of gains from the oils sector, food security should not be toiled with as the citizens need food for energy to carry out other duties.

Meanwhile, Mr. Afotey Agbo, Volta Regional Minister has on behalf of the President; John Dramani Mahama assured that government would not play politics with the agriculture sector, adding that the necessary measures are being put in place to improve agriculture to enhance food security and improvement in the lives of farmers.

Mr. Afotey Agbo acknowledged the contributions of all farmers both subsistence and commercial ones. He also commended past award winners for their hard work and commitment towards improving agriculture.
