Work has commenced on a rural electrification project in the Ekumfi District to connect some 25 communities to the national electricity grid.

Some of the beneficiary communities include Ekumfi Imuna, Ekumfi Nakwa, Ekumfi Akra, Ekumfi Essarkyir-the district capital, Ekumfi Ekrawfo, EkumfiOtuam  among a host of others.

Rural electrification has been identified as one of the areas to focus on in an attempt to accelerate economic development in deprived areas since it helps the springing up of small businesses and industries that eventually drive the economy of the metropolitan, municipal and district assemblies.

District Chief executive for Ekumfi, I.K Dawson said the assembly has recognized the importance of electric energy and is going all out to accelerate the process of hooking more communities using whatever resources available to them while they look forward to governmental support to augment their efforts.
