AMANSIE W: Mining firm supports three Amansie communities

Keegan Resource Ghana Limited (KRGL), a mining firm, has provided a 20-seater aqua privy toilet facility, a medical laboratory, and a 3-unit Kindergarten school block for three communities in the Amansie West District.

The construction of these projects, estimated to cost GH¢202,529.06, forms part of the company’s corporate social responsibility in a bid to add value and improve upon the lot of residents in its catchment area.

The said projects are a medical laboratory for the Mother of God Clinic at Esaase, a 3-unit Kindergarten school block at Tetrem, and a 20-seater aqua privy toilet facility at Amankyea.

The General Operations Manager of KRGL, Mr. Patrick Von Kpekpena, said the projects were meant to add value to the lives of the inhabitants in the catchment area and beyond.

He indicated that the aqua privy facility cost GH¢46,465.25, while the medical laboratory at Esaase cost GH¢56,848.50, with the 3-unit KG block amounting to GH¢99,215.33.

The Keegan Operations Manager expressed grave concern about the non-utilisation of projects provided to some of the communities, citing Essuowin, Gyeninso and Aboabo-Tetekaso, where KVIPs and a market are not being utilised.

Mr. Kpekpena hinted that various permitting process were underway, and that a pre-feasibility study (PFS) has been completed and a draft Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) finalised and submitted to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to enable them start operations as a mining company in Ghana.

The Chief of Esaase, Nana Osei Assibey, who presided over the joint commissioning of the projects at Bontefufuo, thanked Keegan for supporting the beneficiary communities

The Headteacher of the Tetrem R/C School, Mr. Matthew K. Dankwah, thanked KRGL for providing the KG block forthe school, and hoped it will facilitate teaching and learning.

Present were the newly-appointed District Chief Executive, Mr. Alex Kwame Bonsu,  Nana Asamoah, Chief of  Mpatuam, Nana Afrifa  Bonsah, Chief of Amankyea, Nana Twum Tia II, Chief of Tetrem and Nana Yaw Ansah Bedia, Chief of Koben.
