Mr. George Akwasi Amoako, Assembly Member for Anwiaso Electoral in the Bosomefreho District in Ashanti Region, has said that some galamsey operators in his electoral area have threatened to kill him if he does not stop campaigning on the need to stop illegal mining in Anhwiaso.

Mr. George Akwasi Amoako, Assembly Member for Anwiaso Electoral in the Bosomefreho District in Ashanti Region, has said that some galamsey operators in his electoral area have threatened to kill him if he does not stop campaigning on the need to stop illegal mining in Anhwiaso.

According to him, the operations of these illegal miners have resulted in loss of their farmlands.

He said this in an interview with our correspondent Kwaku Amegah yesterday, September 12, 2013, during a General Assembly Meeting held by the Bosomefreho District.

He continued that, the activities of these illegal miners has influenced school going children in the area and it has affected their academic performance.

“Since the inception of the galamsey in Anhwiaso, most of the school children have joined in and it has affected their academics, especially in the Basic Certificate Examination. Most of them had their result cancelled and it is because they do not have time for their books”, he noted.

In related development, Hon. Member for Duase electoral area has also stated that, TV and computer games will be banned soon in his electoral area so that school children in his area will use their time wisely and especially for their studies.

He said this will help improve upon their performance in the BECE.

“It is my wish that the schools in my electoral area will registered among the best in the country, so I am doing all my best to help these children improve on their performance”, he said.
