The 12th National Cadet Corps Leadership Training Programme (NCCLTP), which brought together 82 schools across the country, ended at kaleo in the Nadowli-Kaleo District of the Upper West Region.

The programme, which was officially opened on August 26, was attended by 420 students from the ten regions of the country as well as 40 instructors and coordinators.

The event was on the theme: “Patriotic Youth in Volunteerism Pre-requisite for National Development”.

Speaking during the closing ceremony, Dr. Ephraim Avea Nsoh, Upper West Regional Minister, congratulated the students for their decision to join the Cadet Corps.

He said many military and other security officers were proud products of the school Cadet Corps, and advised the students to take their training serious, especially those who had the intention to join any of the security services.

Dr. Nsoh noted that the sense of volunteerism was unfortunately getting dimmed, and commended the National Cadet Corps, Ghana, the Ministry of Youth and Sports, and the Ghana Education Service for their role in trying to re-instill the sense of volunteerism in the youth.

He admonished the students to use the occasion to strike new acquaintances, share views and ideas that would help in building the nation.

Mr. Joseph Yammin, Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports, said Cadet Cops started in the country in the Ghana Secondary Technical School in Takoradi, and that currently there were 223 Cadet nationwide comprising 23,284 members.

He commended the National Cadet Corps, Ghana, for its role in shaping the youth to become responsible citizens and pledged Government’s commitment to supporting them in that direction.

Mr. Nicholas Tettey Amarteifio, National Cadet Coordinator General, said the Cadet Corps in Schools inculcated into the youth discipline, self confidence, smartness and leadership skills among others.

Captain L. Y. Boakye, the Parade Commander, said the students were taken through drills, first aid, map reading, leadership skills and physical training among others.
