The Akokoaso Senior High Technical School, one of the two SHS in the Akyemansa District is faced with serious infrastructural deficit affecting both teachers and students.

The development exist despite government intervention to providing the school with a 6-unit classroom block and 2 storey dormitory blocks which are under construction for both boys’ and girls’ in the school.

The Headmaster of the school, Mr. Edmond Brown though appreciative of governments effort to mitigate the inconvenience brought to teachers and students as a result of the deficit said the school will be happy if additional infrastructure are channeled into the school in due Course.

According to him, the school needed a dining hall with kitchen, teachers’ bungalow, administration and more classroom blocks to meet the increasing accommodation demands.

He also noted that practical hall for the technical students also requires major rehabilitation to make it safer, adding that the current state of the structure which has deep cracks is more of a death trap.

Eastern Regional Minister, Victor Smith, who was in the school for a familiarization of the district assured authorities of the school that just as government responded swiftly to their earlier call, similar intervention will be made to address some of the challenges mentioned.

He said government’s commitment to improving school infrastructure is not in doubt as several schools across the country have received structures under the Atta Mills led government, noting that the deficit across the country is huge, government need time and more resources to be able to meet the demands of all.

Mr. Oppong Kisi, Member of Parliament for the area said one of the legacies of the area is the SHS and called for concerted efforts to upgrade it become one of the best in the country. He therefore called on the chief and all state holders to do their best to achieve this aim.
