Government will appoint Chief Executives for the 42 newly created Metropolitan, Municipal and Districts Assemblies (MMDAs) in the country very soon, Vice President Dr. John Dramani Mahama has disclosed.

According to him, as part of efforts to give the new districts firm foundation, government had already voted a sum of GHs 43Million as seed money for the new MMDAs and they will as well be migrated onto the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF).

Vice President Mahama disclosed this when inaugurating a 75.21-kilometre trunk road which passes through Agogo, Afrisere and Dome at Ananekrom in the Asante Akim North District in the Ashanti Region last Friday.

The road was funded from the Millennium Development Authority (MiDA) with the aim of connecting the farming communities along the road to urban and marketing centres in the country.

The Chief Executive officer of MiDA, Martin Eson Benjamin said a total of 685 communities would benefit from the road project adding that the provision of the road would also enhance the chances of the Afram Plains to become the food basket of the country in the coming years.

Madam Julie Futola-Toy, of the US Embassy in Ghana, expressed satisfaction at the work done and hoped there would be more collaboration between Ghana and her country.

Meanwhile, residents in the Asante Akim North District after the programme expressed optimism that the area would experience the influx of unprecedented development projects after the Vice president’s visit.
