One of the Millennium Development Authority (MiDA) funded projects in the Asante Akim North Municipality in the Ashanti Region has been completed and handed over to appropriate authorities in the area.

The project is an extension of a trunk road which passes through Agogo, Effirisere and Dome communities.

It took off in 2009; few months after President Mills’s-led NDC government took over the administration of the state, and was completed and handed over in February, this year.

The Deputy Coordinating Director of the Municipality, Edmund Gyamfi who disclosed this in an interview with Ghanadistricts.com indicated that the project was in connection with the tenets of the Better Ghana Agenda which promises of improving food security in the country.

He observed that most of the people who reside along that road were mostly farmers who adopt subsistent, large scale or commercial farming practices.

He was hopeful the road will make it easier for them (farmers) to convey their farm produce to other market centres within the country.

“The road will help transport farm produce brought to Agogo, a farming community in the municipality, from Afram plains and surrounding areas, to urban centres especially in the Accra and Kumasi Metropolis,” he intimated.

He expressed confidence that the road will not only boost the agricultural sector but will also go a long way in springing up a lot of businesses including fuel station garages along the road as well as other economic activities.
