MCE Received materials for Rural Telephony Project in Jirapa Municipality.

The Municipal Chief Executive , Lawyer Nicholas Soyiri, upon assumption of office for Jirapa Assembly received a lot of concerns about the poor mobile phone network coverage in some parts of the Municipality.

His recent familiarization tour to Jirapa and Ullo paramountcy similar concerns were raised.

The negative impact of the situation are, increased arm robbery activities, high risks of delivery of goods and services, delay in accessing relevant information, high cost of doing business and many others were identified.

The  MCE after the familiarization tour, triggered a discussion with the Ministry of Communication and Digitization, and Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communications (GIFEC) to assist the Municipality to increase  mobile phone network coverage.
Prior to receiving the materials, the Hon. MCE and the Planning Unit of the Assembly has already acquired land and GPS codes for the project to start in Nabiri, Kogri, Ull Tampoe, Vingving, Konzokala, Booboo and some sections in Jirapa Town.


The Rural Telephony Project is aimed at closing the void created by mobile network operators (MNOs) during their rollout, while operators are unable to extend coverage to communities with population below 1000 for commercial and economic purposes, GIFEC, as part of its mandate is implementing this project in order to provide voice and data services to unconnected communities in Ghana.

Lawyer Nicholas Soyiri thanked, Ministry of Communication and Digitization, and Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communications (GIFEC) for their timely response to assist the Municipality increase coverage for mobile phone network connectivity and hope many more requests which are before them will be given the same attention.

He appealed to beneficiary communities to give GIFEC the needed assistance for successful completion of the project.
