As part of the plans, he said, hospitals and clinics in the Lawra Municipality in the Upper West Region, will be retooled to enable them function efficiently to enable them take care of the health needs of the people.
He made the statement at the 90th-anniversary celebration of the Lawra hospital where he presented beds valued at 85,000 Ghana Cedis to the hospital. Anthony Karbo said he saw the deplorable condition at the hospital when he visited a friend there some few months ago.
''We want to tackle the problem and address it once and for all. We gain no political advantage in these matters. I was not too well some years back and I was admitted at this hospital. It could happen to anybody sitting here. At least the bed on which you lie when you are sick must be comfortable, that is fifty per cent of the treatment,'' he noted.
Mr. Anthony Karbo, who handed over the first consignment of fifty of the 110 beds to the Upper West Regional Director of Health, Dr. Osei Kufuor Afreh for onward handing over to the hospital said, he wants to ensure that all 110 beds are delivered to the hospital before they start to retool the hospital.
He said government alone cannot shoulder the responsibilities of the people adding, private citizens need to be involved in order to ameliorate the suffering of the people.
''It would not take politicians or those in power to do all to support the hospital but private citizens need to get involved in the development of their communities,'' he stated
Anthony Karbo said the Babile polyclinic, Eremon and Domwini health centres are the other facilities that he will, in the next few months, be focusing on.
Dr. Osei Kufuor Afreh expressed worry over the refusal by medical doctors to accept posing to the Upper West Region.
Dr. Osei Kufuor said government gave financial clearance for the region to employ fourteen medical doctors and only three persons applied for the post at the close of the application date.
Paramount chief of Lawra traditional area, Naa Puowelle Karbo III, paid glowing tribute to the workers of the hospital for their commitment and dedication to work despite challenges they face in the discharge of their work.
