PRESTEA: Selected schools receive 960 desks

The Prestea Huni- Valley Municipal Assembly as part of fulfilling its promise of delivering Four Thousand (4,000) Desks before the year ends has distributed 960 desks to schools within the Municipality.

These desks were made up of 390 mono and 600 dual desks. Nine Hundred (900) of these desks were distributed in July 2019. It was funded from the District Development Fund (DDF).

Addressing the gathering, Mr. Mozart K. Owuh the Municipal Chief Executive of Prestea Huni- Valley Municipal Assembly expressed his displeasure over the scarcity of desks in the various schools within Municipality. He talked about the effect of inadequate desks (mono, dual and hexagonal) on teaching and learning in the various schools.



He urged the recipients and the beneficiaries of these desks to facilitate learning in order to provide good grades. He again charged the recipients to exhibit proper maintenance culture by keeping them in good shape.

The Municipal Coordinating Director Mr. Peter Essaim Asante, in his welcome address at the event also mentioned that the provision of basic infrastructure is one key function of the Assembly. The provision of educational infrastructure is a prerequisite to ensuring smooth and effective teaching and learning in the Municipality.

He finally charged the recipients of the desks to maintain them properly since they were funded by the basic revenues generated from the citizens themselves and also encouraged them to join in campaigning in educating the citizenry to pay their tax to the Assembly.



The Municipal Director of Education, Madam Mary Vida Kwofie expressed her profound gratitude to the Assembly for the kind gesture. Madam Mary promised that they would take good care of the furniture and also use them to promote effective teaching and learning so as to bring about improvement in the grades of pupils of Prestea Huni-Valley in the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) the coming year.
