Dr. Damien Punguyire, described maternal and child health as the foundation of sustainable socioeconomic development. He emphasized that every investment in skilled healthcare workers, Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compounds, and community health systems contributes to healthier families, stronger communities, and a more productive region.

Reflecting on the three-year implementation of the HOPE-MCH Project, He praised The Hunger Project-Ghana and its development partners for strengthening healthcare delivery through capacity building, training of health workers, community education, improved transportation, and support for health facilities. He noted that these interventions have enhanced access to quality maternal and child healthcare, particularly in hard-to-reach communities.

He noted that HOPE-MCH Project is aligned with the Government policy on the Free Primary Health Care, stressing that strengthening services at the CHPS level and empowering frontline health workers are essential to achieving Universal Health Coverage.

Dr. Punguyire called on participants to use the two-day workshop to critically assess the project's impact, identify gaps in implementation, and develop practical strategies to sustain the gains made beyond 2026.

The Regional Director expressed the Ghana Health Service appreciation to The Hunger Project-Ghana, district health teams, and development partners for their unwavering commitment to improving the health and well-being of mothers and children across the Eastern Region.
