Mr Amoako, who is the immediate past presiding Member of the Assembly, polled 29 votes to beat his two contestants Nana Dankwa Tobu, a government appointee who obtained 12 votes and Mr Daniel Tikofried who got 3 votes.

The 48-Member Assembly is made up of 34 elected and 14 appointees.

Mr Gabriel Dowuona-Hammond, the District Electoral Officer who conducted the election said a second balloting was necessary as none of the three contestants obtained the required percentage.
But after consultations the other two contestants withdrew from the race and the assembly unanimously endorsed Mr Amoako as the presiding member to lead the assembly for the next two years.

Mr Amoako appealed to the members to cooperate with him to develop the area and promised not to abuse the trust reposed in him.

Mrs Georgina Nkrumah Aboah, District Chief Executive for the area, advised the members to put aside their political differences and unite as one body to move the District forward.

The Assembly later approved Fanti and English as the languages to be used during their sittings and also formed sub-committees.
